Proposed Center

Purpose

Our primary purpose is to early detect through standard assessments, provide evident based
therapy, coordinate with other sectors involved in care and provide knowledge and skills to parent and caregivers on addressing and managing problems of children with Autism. Therefore the centre will function as an outpatient care facility that would accommodate approximately 50 children and accompanying parents on a daily basis. The centre will have a multidisciplinary team of health staff who include Medical Consultants, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Special Education teacher and their supportive staff.


Functions of the center

  1. Best practice models, including state of art assessments, interventions, followup and
    progress monitoring for persons with Autism under one roof
  1. Provide responsiveness to needs of families (for instance, information, networks of
    support, parent training and referrals to other specialists)
  2. Financial support. Creative use of state funding including funding from the Ministry of
    Health, Public welfare, Social, and Education resources. We need to consider
    partnership between public –private sector and non-governmental organizations for financial
    support.
  3. Community and regional collaborations for providing family supports (the rural area,
    there is a need to access natural supports in the community, e.g., parks and
    recreation, library, sports, cultural and other activities, etc.)
  4. Development of website, chat, newsletter, mailing list. Giving the public information
    details about upcoming function and updates.
  5. Education, support and advocacy. Provide the latest information about ASD to everyone
    from families and patients to school personnel, physicians and agencies. Resources include
    seminars, workshops, newsletter, training and consultations.

  9. Mechanisms for coordinating and integrating resources and services across all domains
    and use technology to share expertise with other hospitals.

  11. Process and outcomes evaluation of the program conducted by the center
  12. Creating innovative solutions
  13. Welcoming autistic individuals as collaborators, research trainees, students and staff
    members.
  14. The center will address the needs and propose the development of programs that improve
    the developmental outcomes for children regionally, nationally and internationally by
    educating the next generation of clinicians in best practices for autism evaluation, diagnosis
    and intervention.
